In the public sector, Mr. Cohen served as Deputy Director of Legal Affairs for a State District Court, being responsible for defending rulings and other legal acts of the court’s Magistrate. He later became the Deputy Director for the General Secretary in Federal Court, and again, was involved with the appeals review process. From 2015-2016, Mr. Cohen collaborated as a legal analyst and political advisor for then Senator Javier Lozano Alarcon of the National Action Party (PAN). Mr. Cohen collaborated in the drafting, discussion, and implementation of policy relating to matters in telecommunications and transportation in Mexico. As to his private sector experience, Mr. Cohen was an Associate Attorney at Solorzano Carvajal Gonzalez y Perez-Correa, S.C. (SOLCARGO) where he was heavily involved with internal audits of state owned entities in relation to their legal strategies in all matters of litigation; and also worked closely with international oil, gas, and electricity companies in light of the reforms to Mexico’s energy sector laws in 2012, guiding them through the regulatory processes and requirements to establish operations in Mexico, including the bidding rounds for new E&P leases. In 2016, Mr. Cohen joined Phipps Anderson Deacon, LLP in San Antonio, Texas, and had the opportunity to collaborate in matters regarding complex civil litigation involving farmers across the United States of America and the export of U.S. grown corn to the Asian markets.

In 2018, Mr. Cohen attended Melbourne Law School, in Melbourne, Australia. During his time there, Mr. Cohen was able to collaborate with firms such as Minter Ellison and Corrs Chambers Westgarth as a corporate transactional intern prior to returning to California in 2020.

Since his return, and before joining Zelms Erlich Lenkov, Mr. Cohen worked with the Financial Investment Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in all matters regarding institutional investment regulation and compliance; and later became an Associate Attorney with Knapp Petersen & Clarke, APC, working on general liability insurance defense matters.

Outside of the office, Mr. Cohen has been published in the Energy and Natural Resources Journal of the University of Oklahoma College of Law, and has also been involved with organizations that support U.S. veterans, and promote the civil and constitutional rights of all Americans.
